Perceptions vs. Reality
Myth: The poor do not work.
Reality: 60% of poor families have at least one worker.
Myth: Poor people are trapped in a cycle of poverty that few escape.
Reality: A significant proportion of Americans are poor at some point in their adult life.
Myth: The marjority of the poor are African American often living in inner cities.
Reality: Even though African Americans are overrepresented among the poor, they make up less than 25% of the population living in poverty.
